"To lose both of them at once probably just opened up a bit of a forum just for other people to step up and take some responsibility. I think with both not playing, other people have been happy to accept some more responsibility, and others have been forced to accept it as well.
"Would we rather have Rog here? Of course we would. But the positives that came out of it were opportunities for other people not only to play, but to step up in more of a leadership capacity and that has certainly been a win for us in terms of the future of the club."
Prop Addin Fonua-Blake is one of several players to find himself in a position he probably didn't expect at the start of the year as he prepares to captain the side for the run home.
"When Roger left, he addressed the team as a whole. He's a great leader, so he didn't really need to say anything; you've just got to do what he does," Fonua-Blake said.
"I watched him closely all year and the way he carries himself, so he didn't have to say anything – I just followed his actions."
He will again lead the side onto the park this weekend when they meet the 15th-placed Brisbane Broncos and look to continue their charge towards the top eight.
After a terrible start to the year, Brisbane have looked a handy outfit in recent weeks – coming up just short of tipping up the high-flying Sydney Roosters last time out.
With three rounds left to play, the Warriors are one of four teams to sit just two points outside of eighth place on the ladder on 18 points. However, with the Canberra Raiders and Gold Coast Titans (both on 20 points) awaiting them in their final two matches, a win over Brisbane could be vital in their hopes of ultimately ending the year in the top half of the table.
