NRL: Sea Eagles struck by another injury

SYDNEY - Manly's premiership defence has copped another setback with in-form prop Jason King ruled out indefinitely with a rib cartilage injury.

King suffered the injury just seven minutes into last Sunday's win over Cronulla and may be sidelined for several weeks after scans revealed he had displaced cartilage between several ribs.

The Sea Eagles will send King back for scans next week to see if any progress has been made with his injury, the club hopeful the 28-year-old front-rower can play a part in their finals campaign with the help of pain-killing injections.

He is not the only premiership star in doubt for the finals campaign, with centre Jamie Lyon's shoulder injury showing no signs of improvement.

The Sea Eagles will not risk playing Lyon until he is fully fit, fearful he may not last an entire game if rushed back into the side.

The uncertainty over Lyon has left rookie five-eighth Kieran Foran living life on the edge as he is the man most likely to drop out of the side when the former test star returns.

"I don't really know what I am doing week by week, it is just if I get named then I grab it, if I don't then I go back and play in our 20's team," said Foran, who was named in the Toyota Cup team of the year on Tuesday.

With King out, test prop Brent Kite will get his first run-on jumper since round 19 with Adam Cuthbertson added to the bench for Saturday's crucial NRL clash with the Gold Coast at Brookvale Oval.

Departing South Sydney star Craig Wing has overcome a persistent hamstring injury to get a chance to say `sayonara' to the NRL against Cronulla at Toyota Stadium on Saturday night.

Wing was added to the Rabbitohs bench in what will be his final game before heading to play rugby union in Japan next year.

Newcastle halfback Scott Dureau has been called up to replace suspended five-eighth Ben Rogers in Sunday's finals playoff with Penrith at EnergyAustralia Stadium.

Rogers faces up to a five week ban for a striking charge, with the Knights immediately recalling Dureau for his first NRL game since round 20 for the must-win clash.

Sydney Roosters veteran Anthony Minichiello will return to fullback for Craig Fitzgibbon's NRL farewell against North Queensland on Sunday.

The Warriors copped a double injury blow for Stacey Jones' farewell against Melbourne on Saturday, with Manu Vatuvei (knee) and Jerome Ropati (shoulder) both ruled out with injury, replaced by Aidan Kirk and Patrick Ah Van.
