NRL: James Gavet hands out food to under-privileged

Warriors prop James Gavet took time out from NRL duty recently to hand out food parcels to some under-privileged people around Auckland.

In a video that appeared on his Facebook page, Gavet, along with his brother and sister, visited an Auckland supermarket to buy supplies of bottled water, fruit and sandwiches.

The group then gave them out randomly to members of the public, included some people sitting on the footpath and begging.

The video on his Facebook page has been viewed more than 6,000 times.

"Here's something to hopefully warm your hearts out there," wrote Gavet. " Just some random acts of kindness on our day off. God bless."

Gavet had previously posted videos and links on his Facebook page highlighting the plight of the homeless in the United States.

Gavet, who revealed to the New Zealand Herald in March his long running battles with alcohol and mental health issues earlier in his career, demonstrated his wider perspective on life with his actions.

The 26-year-old made his debut for the Warriors in round one against the Tigers. He has played a total of five matches for the Auckland team, averaging 79 running metres and 18 tackles per game.
