Injured Warriors hooker Issac Luke is on track to play in Saturday's NRL clash against the Sydney Roosters however halfback Shaun Johnson is facing two weeks on the sidelines with an ankle injury.
Luke is battling to recover from a dislocated shoulder suffered in last week's win over Wests Tigers, and Johnson suffered an ankle strain in the same match, which appears likely to keep out until the round 12 home game against South Sydney.
A final call on Luke's fitness will be made after Friday's captain's run but the 30-year-old got through most of today's training session and said early signs are good that he'll be right to play in the Indigenous Round match against the Tri-Colours.
"I'm just getting old, but I want to play but that's up to the medical staff, they've done a good job of getting me back on my feet again," said Luke.
"I'll find out at the captains run. I've ticked every box so far strength-wise, but at the end of the day it's the coach's call and whoever plays on the jumper will do a good job."
Back-up hooker Karl Lawton has again been named in the reserves after impressing in his first club appearance with a two-try performance off the bench as Luke's replacement against the Tigers.
Coach Stephen Kearney reiterated the point that Luke will be given every opportunity to play this week, in the hope he can make another miraculous recovery, as he did in overcoming a knee injury in the lead-up to last week's match.
"He's not out of the woods yet," said Kearney.
"It's a very similar situation to last week, so he's got a couple of things that he needs to tick off before he's given the all-clear, and I'll sit down with the medical team and decide what we think is going to be best for Issac this week.
"But he got through training today and he's done pretty well that last couple of weeks with that sort of thing but we just need to see how he gets through the next couple of days."
As for Johnson, Kearney confirmed the side was preparing to be without the Kiwis test No 7 for this week's game and the round 11 clash against Parramatta in Sydney.
Fill-in halfback Mason Lino has been named to step in for Johnson for a fourth time this season after previous appearances against the Roosters, Cowboys and Storm.
"There's probably a chance that he won't be ready for next week," said Kearney.
"It's a week to week thing for him at the moment but we anticipate probably a couple of weeks."
Meanwhile, outside back utility Gerard Beale will make his club debut in the Warriors reserve grade clash against Western Suburbs in the curtain raiser at Mt Smart Stadium.
The 27-year-old Cronulla recruit is returning from a broken leg suffered while playing for the Kiwis on the same ground against Samoa at last year's World Cup.
Kearney expects he'll quickly come into contention for first grade selection but believes it may take Beale some time to find his confidence after such a long lay-off.
"It might take a bit of time for him to get a bit of confidence back.
"But he's been training really well and he's looked sharper and sharper as the training sessions have ticked by for him so I anticipate that he'll certainly be challenging for a spot.
"He's a quality player and has plenty of NRL experience and played a number of NRL games so I have no doubts that in the not too distant future that he'll be putting his hand up for a spot in the NRL team."
