Promising fullback Glen Fisiiahi should have plenty of chances to consign to history his unhappy NRL debut against the Eels this month.
Named to make his first start at fullback against the Sharks in Taupo on Sunday, the 20-year-old flier has inked a four-year deal that will keep him at the Warriors until the end of 2015.
The club has also taken up a one-year option on senior prop Sam Rapira for 2012, and is believed to be deep in negotiations over a long-term extension.
Somewhat of a veteran despite being just 23, Rapira has played 105 NRL matches and 12 tests for the Kiwis, including the 2008 World Cup final.
While Rapira's retention is a positive, the long-term commitment to Fisiiahi is a signal the club intends to build through its burgeoning youth development programme.
"We see Glen having a long future with the club and we're delighted to sign him for four years," recruitment manager Dean Bell said.
Fisiiahi scored 22 tries in 29 games for last year's champion NYC team and was a standout during the club's pre-season trials. But he endured a tough NRL debut against Parramatta in round one and was ruled out of the side for round two with concussion and a shoulder injury.
"It's an exciting week for me having my future sorted out and also coming back into the NRL side to start at fullback," Fisiiahi said.
"I've had an amazing couple of years. I couldn't be happier and now I want to do all I can to improve all areas of my game and give myself a chance of playing in the NRL as much as possible."
