The Warriors could be beaten in their bid to sign Kieran Foran with Canterbury reportedly set to make the Kiwis international an offer as early as today.
Reports out of Australia have the Bulldogs preparing to table a contract for Foran after club officials met with the troubled playmaker in the past 48 hours.
The Warriors have been favourites to sign the former Manly and Parramatta five-eighth on a one-year deal for next season but these developments could see the 26-year-old remain in Sydney.
The Bulldogs offer is understood to be greater than the Warriors but Fox Sports' Paul Kent said on NRL 360 that he believed Foran was leaning towards honouring a verbal commitment to Warriors managing director Jim Doyle.
A shift to the Bulldogs would reunite Foran with his old Manly mentor Des Hasler, who previously tried to recruit him when he left the Sea Eagles at the end of 2014 to join the Eels.
