No lasting effects for Munster after Gavet tackle

Melbourne Storm fullback Cameron Munster has not suffered any lasting effects from the controversial tackle that has divided the rugby league community.

The Storm community - still reeling from the loss of Billy Slater - held its breath when Munster went down clutching his leg after an awkward tackle from James Gavet in Melbourne's 21-14 win over the Warriors on Sunday.

Gavet's chip kick was caught by Munster and the Warriors big man proceeded to dive hard and low at the young gun's legs in a one-on-one tackle. The incident was placed on report, but Gavet was not charged by the Match Review Committee on Monday.

"He (Munster) got through OK," Storm football manager Frank Ponissi said.

"We had a good look at it after the game. I think it probably looked a lot worse than it really was and it could have been bad, but thankfully everything is OK."

Storm will next face in-form Cronulla on the road next Monday night. While it is a second successive away game, Ponissi said the side was grateful for the eight days between games.

"Playing the Warriors is always a physical game so it takes a little bit out of you," Ponissi said.

"Plus there is the travel factor so I think the eight-day turnaround has come at a good time. It will be recovery the next days before light duties on Wednesday and we'll start ramping it up on Thursday."
