Tony Kemp is looking for a bit of tough love from his senior players to ensure his side maintains its composure against the Rabbitohs this afternoon.
While Kemp might have had a few things to say about the referee last weekend, he also rolled out the importance of the two Cs - consistency and composure.
Composure, though, is not something learnt overnight and the Warriors coach is turning to senior players like Steve Price, Stacey Jones and Monty Betham to ram the message home on the pitch.
"Sometimes when a player makes an error, he needs a kick up the pants from his peers," Kemp said in the leadup to today's game against the Rabbitohs. "It's an opportunity for them to say it's unacceptable to do something in this area of the field and that means for me, as a coach, that half of my job has already been done.
"Whatever happens on the field for 80 minutes, you have to be man enough to take it."
The Warriors have traditionally been a side willing to throw the ball around at the expense of a more rigid and structured style. But there also needs to be a balance because they have been guilty in their two losses so far this season of pushing the pass when holding the ball would have been a better option.
In the first match against Manly, the Warriors' completion rate was a lowly 50 per cent and this rose to about 60 per cent against the Cowboys. They were also pinged 11-6 in the penalty count last weekend, which sat at 9-4 in the first half when the Cowboys slipped out to a decisive 20-10 lead.
While Kemp is unhappy with these statistics, he's unwilling to reign in his side too much saying: "We can't take away the Warriors feel, which is a more expansive and entertaining style of footy."
He sat his squad down during the week for a video session highlighting good and bad decision-making from a few recent games.
The lack of consistency saw Kemp make four changes to the side from last weekend, however, teenager Simon Mannering was forced to withdraw yesterday because of a foot injury. It means Clinton Toopi will start his 100th NRL game at centre, while prop Richard Villasanti will be on the bench. Fullback Brent Webb (back/hamstring) is a doubt.
The Warriors will be up against not only a resurgent Souths side but also recent history, having lost their past five home games - ironically their last win was against the Rabbitohs in July last season.
* The Warriors have banned a fan from Ericsson Stadium for the rest of the season after the person threw a projectile towards referee Tony Archer last week.
The club has also been sent breach notices by the NRL for hav ing trainers and a doctor on the field at the wrong time against the Cowboys in violation of NRL bylaws.
