League: Warriors captain Roger Tuivasa-Sheck booked in for knee surgery

Warriors captain Roger Tuivasa-Sheck will have surgery on his injured left knee on Friday.

The 25-year-old fullback was carried off 27 minutes into Saturday's season ending NRL elimination finals defeat to Penrith at ANZ Stadium.

The Warriors had led 12-2 early on but never recovered once Tuivasa-Sheck departed as Penrith piled on 25 unanswered points to advance to Friday's semi-final against Cronulla at Allianz Stadium.

Scans earlier this week revealed he had suffered a medial ligament and meniscal injury with his recovery time yet to be determined.

It was a disappointing finish to the season for the New Zealand international who remains in doubt for the Kiwis upcoming test against Australia and end of year tour of the UK.

An outstanding individual campaign has Tuivasa-Sheck among the leading contenders to win the Dally M award.

On Tuesday night he was narrowly beaten by Newcastle young gun Kalyn Ponga who became the youngest winner of the Rugby League Players' Association Players' Champion award.

Kiwis coach Michael Maguire will hope he can recover quickly with New Zealand hosting the Kangaroos at Mt Smart Stadium on October 13 before heading abroad to play three tests against England and a one-off international against France in November.

Tuivasa-Sheck missed the Kiwis' controversial mid-season test against England in Denver with Panthers fullback Dallin Watene-Zelezniak replacing him in the No 1 role at Mile High Stadium.
