KEY POINTS:
The odds of Wests Tigers halfback Mathew Head joining the Warriors appear to be lengthening.
The Warriors have been in talks with the 26-year-old about a move to Mt Smart Stadium but it's understood both the club and player are cooling on the idea.
Halfback is one area the Warriors want to strengthen, and they came close to picking up Les Catalans playmaker Casey McGuire before he decided to re-sign with the high-flying French club.
They then turned their attentions to Head, who returned to the NRL with Wests Tigers this season after six months playing for Hull FC in the UK Super League. He is said to be keen on staying in Australia and the Tigers have been in talks about keeping him at Leichhardt Oval.
If a deal for Head does fall over, it would leave the Warriors with few options at halfback.
Few quality No 7s come onto the open market because they are so highly valued and clubs normally tie the best to long-term deals.
It might mean that the Warriors would need to turn their attentions to one of the best halfbacks from the Toyota Cup.
Last night against the Cowboys they employed Grant Rovelli at halfback with Nathan Fien, who has also played in the position in recent weeks, at five-eighth.
The Warriors have so far recruited Broncos duo Joel Moon (five-eighth) and Denan Kemp (winger) along with Cowboys second-rower Jacob Lillyman.
