KEY POINTS:
George Gatis can almost smell the aroma of fried food but is not yet ready to return to his fish and chip business in Townsville.
The hard-working hooker has been told he's surplus to requirements next season, meaning he has only seven more games in a Warriors shirt. That could change, of course, if the Warriors make the top eight.
"I really want to play finals footy and will do everything I can to make sure the Warriors get there," he said. "I'm not finished with this club yet."
It came as no surprise to Gatis that he had been cut, especially as he wasn't prepared to commit his future to a club beyond one season at a time because of his chippie business. He is hopeful of picking up a contract in the UK.
Gatis has been in good form for the Warriors of late, benefitting from more game time than in the past on the back of six straight starts. He's also scored three tries in the past four games to keep Nathan Fien on the interchange bench.
The Warriors will rely on Gatis' darting runs out of dummy half against a Wests Tigers side that is one spot above them on the table.
