KEY POINTS:
The Dragons achieved the unthinkable and downed the second-placed Sea Eagles in Manly, the Storm beat Souths as expected but the real action in the NRL at the weekend was off the field.
The Souths co-owners Russell Crowe and Peter Holmes a Court aren't talking and Holmes a Court will resign as club chairman and chief executive this week, to be replaced by Shane Richardson.
The news leaked as Crowe sought expressions of interest from new prospects for the board, which already include his cousin, former Kiwi cricketer Martin Crowe.
The Rabbitohs are also looking for a new assistant to coach Jason Taylor as they try to reverse their nine-loss, one-win record.
They held champions Melbourne to 4-0 at halftime in front of 8000 at Bluetongue Stadium on the Central Coast, the Storm with eight backing up from State of Origin and without Greg Inglis, who injured a knee in that game.
It was still 4-0 at 65 minutes, then Kiwi Jeremy Smith scored. Just eight minutes were left when Nigel Vagana forced a chip for Souths' first points. Cooper Cronk slotted a field goal then a penalty before Vagana scored again in the 79th minute.
Souths' problems in the halves remain - Dean Widders is too slow and taking wrong options. Inglis is expected to be back next week when the Storm host the Bulldogs.
Old halfback hero Steve Morris' twins combined to score the match-winner for the Dragons, with wing Josh passing to fullback Brett for a late 20-18 result. The Eagles led 12-10 at the break after each side scored two tries.
Manly hero Steve Menzies uncharacteristically dropped the ball in the act of scoring when the Eagles were 18-14 up and the home crowd of 12,058 couldn't break the Dragons' spirit as they came from behind.
The Bulldogs' management will this week meet Sonny Bill Williams and his new manager Khoder Nasser, also manager of Anthony Mundine, to discuss Williams' concerns about as yet unidentified "issues" at the club.
But the club will remain staunch in enforcing the five-year deal it has through to 2012. Sydney media suggest Williams will face a court injunction to stop him leaving and a A$3 million lawsuit if he signs elsewhere.
Eels and Kiwi fullback Krisnan Inu made his return for feeder side Wentworthville yesterday after two months off with a broken ankle.
