Hayne news makes for perfect Father's Day
Confirmation on Sunday that Jarryd Hayne had made the San Francisco 49ers roster came as the ultimate Father's Day present for his dad and Warriors 1995 original Manoa Thompson.
"I had the best Father's Day present yesterday and I celebrated accordingly," Thompson joked to Sydney's Triple M radio.
"It's just a great big rush, you know, we're just so proud of him and personally speaking I never doubted it because I saw the hard work that was required to be put in and he was just bending over backwards to get the job done and become successful at it."
SKD trains alongside war veterans
Prior to making his playing return against Souths last Friday, Shaun Kenny-Dowall took inspiration from a group of soldiers who were spending time in the same mental rehabilitation centre as the Roosters speedster.
Kenny-Dowall continues to wait to face court on charges of domestic violence against his former partner Jessica Perris, but recently spent time with soldiers who were dealing with their own issues after returning from war, with some having served in Afghanistan.
The 14-test Kiwis outside back spent time training with the group and joined them for weights sessions at a gym close to the rehab facility.
Perrett to negotiate new deal
Kiwi winger Sam Perrett has shunned the services of a player agent and taken it upon himself to negotiate a contract extension with the Canterbury Bulldogs.
After joining the Doggies from the Roosters midway through 2012, Perrett was happy to represent himself and feels confident that a new deal will be confirmed sooner rather than later.
"I'm looking for certain things and it's not just about money for me. There are a whole lot of other things that are important to me and I think that's all pretty much been ticked for me so I'm stoked," Perrett told NRL.com.
Carney on the outer at Castleford
Former Raiders and Roosters forward Justin Carney has been stood down by Castleford for allegedly having an affair with one of his teammates' partner.
It is understood Carney was suspended after a teammate raised the allegations with him at training. A fight ensued before coach Daryl Powell intervened and both players were sent home.
The majority of the squad are siding with the unnamed teammate and have told club officials they want Carney's contract terminated.
Lodge's career in limbo
Wests Tigers prop Matt Lodge's career is in limbo after he was recently stood down from the club after being charged with numerous domestic violence-related offences.
It is believed the 20-year-old had been granted a release to join the Penrith Panthers, but that move is now in doubt following this latest drama.
Lodge was recently banned from attending junior matches for the rest of the year after his involvement in the same sideline misconduct incident that saw the Fifita brothers banned for 12 months from junior games.
