LEEDS - New Zealand rugby league captain Richie Barnett has insisted the Kiwis needed to focus on beating England tomorrow morning before worrying about playing Australia in the rugby league World Cup.
New Zealand have cruised through their games, scoring 260 points and conceding only 34 in reaching the semifinal against England at Bolton.
Barnett has reminded his players to forget about revenge against Australia - who should romp past Wales in the other semifinal early on Monday morning - and concentrate on dealing with England.
"England have had tougher games in their draw, and 30,000 fans behind them will be worth points to them.
"But we don't want our guys think about playing Australia in the final until after we have played England," he said.
"There will probably be an exodus of older guys like myself, Quentin Pongia, Stephen Kearney, Craig Smith and Ruben Wiki in the next three or four years and this could be our last crack at the World Cup.
"We have to be on song against England and produce one of our best games. But there is a great mood in the camp which is reflected in our results.
"We are closer as a team than probably any before in recent times."
Versatile Robbie Paul forced his way back into the 17, released late last night, after a fine three-day display against France in the quarter-final. Coach Frank Endacott said Paul would come off the bench during the game to play in the halves or at hooker.
In other selections, Matt Rua has sealed his position in the second row with Stephen Kearney, allowing Ruben Wiki to play loose forward.
Logan Swann won the reserve loose forward spot on the bench.
The England team hadn't been named but impressive loose forward Paul Sculthorpe is tipped to return after injury.
The bookies have Australia to win the World Cup at 1-6, NZ at 10-3, England 16-1 and Wales150-1.
