KANGAROOS 32 KIWIS 24
The Australia-New Zealand test in Wellington played out to a familiar script this evening, with the Kiwis leading to the 61-minute mark and being run down 32-24.
The Kangaroos scored three of their six tries in the second half, while the Kiwis were unable to add to the 24-16 lead they took to the break.
Hooker Richard Swain made plenty of ground from dummy half. Paul Rauhihi was effective at prop and Ruben Wiki and Stephen Kearney solid on defence but unable to make much impact on attack.
The Kangaroos were composed despite the pressure applied and in the end the Kiwis just made too many mistakes.
Coach Gary Freman was pleased with the improvement since his first game against Australia last July.
"It was an exceptional game of footy," Freeman said.
"We showed plenty of courage. I'm proud of the boys. I thought all of the new Kiwis went well. Everyone contributed."
Freeman's opposite, Chris Anderson, admitted he had been nervous until Ben Kennedy went over at 61 minutes to give them the lead.
"I think we know how to win and that's the difference," Anderson said.
With the gap between the two sides closing, Anderson said he expected the job of Aussie coach to get tougher. He may not be doing it next year.
