Mad Monday celebrations in the NRL have produced controversy over the years. Here's five that created headlines.
1. In 2012 the Canterbury Bulldogs donated $30,000 to charity after their "louts only" recruitment policy paid handsome dividends after the grand final. Players allegedly urinated on their home ground field in full view of the media, before a controversy erupted over obscene comments initially believed to have been directed at a female journalist.
2. Canberra Raiders player Joel Monaghan helped re-write the textbook on what not to do on Mad Monday when he was photographed in an extremely compromising position with a dog during his team's post-season celebrations in 2010. The alcohol-fuelled stunt quickly made its way on to social media, the RSPCA got involved and Monaghan eventually left the club.
3. South Sydney Rabbitohs coach Jason Taylor was stopped pretty quickly when one of his players, David Fa'alogo, took exception to a midriff jab during 2009 celebrations and duly punched him in the face. Taylor was eventually sacked over the incident, which happened after a long drinking session at a Sydney hotel, despite arguing that "the nature of the consensual horse play was pretend, lightweight kung-fu play".
4. The West Tigers' post-season was thrown into turmoil in 2011 when halfback Robert Lui was charged with assaulting his pregnant girlfriend after his team was eliminated by the Warriors in the semifinal. Lui was stood down from the Tigers, however the charges were eventually dropped and he reignited his career with North Queensland.
