This has to go down as one of the most unluckiest rugby league plays of all time. A certain try turned into two Wigan players injured during their Super League win over Wakefield.
First centre Anthony Gelling was injured when his hamstring went with the tryline in sight and daylight in front of him. Gelling had the sense to pass the ball onto teammate John Bateman.
Bateman then sent the ball from his knee towards the tryline and took chase, making a desperate dive only for the ball to beat him across the touchline. Unfortunately Bateman kept sliding with his shoulder colliding with a pole.
The worst part is that the try wouldn't have affected the scoreline with Wigan already leading 40-22 with just three minutes left in the game.
