KEY POINTS:
The Government is welcoming an independent review into the financial troubles at the New Zealand Rugby League.
Sir John Anderson will head the eight-member panel which will take a look at the sport's management. The review follows concerns over mismanagement and the poor financial state of the game.
Sir John is the chairman of several companies, including TVNZ, and was appointed earlier this year as commissioner of the Hawke's Bay District Health Board.
Sports Minister Clayton Cosgrove says the Government has expressed its concern about the health and stability of rugby league, and have ordered the review. He says the code is a bedrock sport in New Zealand and it is vital the administration is as strong as possible.
The review panel will report back to the Government in November.
