KEY POINTS:
League star Sonny Bill Williams has had to give up his flash BMW and is now driving round town in a Daihatsu Charade.
The Kiwi, who plays for the Sydney-based Bulldogs, has had a number of run-ins with the law, being fined for urinating in public and speeding in a school zone.
Now, the Sunday Telegraph reports he has had to give back the BMW 3 Series model loaned to him by a car dealer.
And instead he is in the second-hand Daihatsu worth a fraction of the price.
Canterbury BMW, spoken to by the paper, wouldn't say if the car had to be given back because of Sonny Bill's indiscretions but confirmed it had been returned.
The Sunday Telegraph has little sympathy for the player, responding to claims he is thinking of quitting the NRL because of the media pressure by saying: "We would suggest it would be far more beneficial for the champion forward to ignore the sycophants, pull his head in and understand that rugby league superstars are the same as any other member of the public ... if you continue to break the law, you pay the price."
