In typical style, Mannering downplayed the issue and insisted he was "as good as gold" ahead of this weekend's clash against the Titans.
Sorensen legacy continues
Following last week's item about Chad Townsend's partner, Marissa Sorensen, granddaughter to former Kiwis great Bill Sorensen, several other NRL connections to her family name have been made clear.
St George-Illawarra forward Leeson Ah Mau is set to marry another of Bill's granddaughters, Rose Sorensen Cann, at the end of the season, and William Tom, nephew of former Cronulla and Kiwis pair Dane and Kurt, is plying his trade with the Dragons' under-20s side.
Furthermore, Marissa's brother Scott plays NSW Cup at South Sydney, while her other brother Blake previously played under-20s with the Sharks.
Sterlo defends DCE
It's not often you hear Channel 9 commentator Peter Sterling getting fired up but the Parramatta Eels legend did just that midweek when debating the Cherry-Evans contract saga with fellow Triple M radio host Dan Ginnane.
Ginnane was adamant DCE could have done more to clarify his contract position in the media and suggested the Manly No7 had "milked this for weeks", prompting Sterlo to respond: "That's bullshit. That's absolute bullshit. What, you think he's enjoying this?"
Flanagan's dry line
Sharks coach Shane Flanagan's dry wit had the media chuckling following his side's brave win over the Rabbitohs in wet and wild conditions at Remondis Stadium on Monday.
When asked how close the game had gone to being postponed, Flanagan replied: "We weren't calling it off ... There's scope there in the rules if it's a chance of endangering spectators, players or officials but we checked everyone could swim and got through it."
Cowboys upset with Martin
North Queensland are fuming over a logistical drama involving Latino pop prince Ricky Martin, who was set to perform at 1300SMILES Stadium this weekend before his shows were moved to the Townsville Entertainment Centre.
The Cowboys were denied a chance to host an Anzac Day game and told they couldn't train at their ground so arrangements were made for the team to travel to Newcastle yesterday to begin preparations for tomorrow's clash against the Knights.
However, the wild storms lashing NSW mean Paul Green's side will be training in terrible conditions, leaving them far from impressed.
