There hasn't been much banter between the Warriors' Kiwi and Aussie players during the Cricket World Cup, but back-rower Ryan Hoffman played the role of villain at the club's Anzac jersey launch midweek. The proud Kangaroos rep was backing his countrymen to take out the tournament saying, tongue in cheek: "If Australia get through you know the Kiwis will choke in the final so we'll be right."
Bhana an all-rounder
Simon Mannering rates Warriors fringe first-grader David Bhana as the club's best cricketer. The 22-year-old forward of Indian, Maori and Scottish descent has been the standout performer with both bat and ball during recent indoor cricket sessions in the Warriors' gym. "There's not many of us who are any good," Mannering explained. "David Bhana, he's an all-rounder. He's a big fan actually. He's got it in his blood."
Carmont comeback
Former Newcastle and Wigan centre George Carmont has been pulling on the boots again recently and done enough to earn himself a part-time contract with the Warriors. "George is back out there playing really good football," said coach Andrew McFadden. "He's 37 so he's not on the young side but he's showing signs he's still got it and we'll see how he goes."
No room for Locke
Former Warriors and Kiwis test fullback Kevin Locke is reportedly keen to exit the UK Super League and return to the NRL but it won't be with his old club. "We're pretty tied up at fullback at the moment," said Andrew McFadden. "Kevin's a very talented player but the Warriors have probably moved past him and we're certainly happy with what we've got at the moment."
Lauiti'iti's testimonial
Former Warriors and Kiwis forward Ali Lauiti'iti is celebrating a three-month testimonial and will hold several fundraising events from June.
