Former All Blacks assistant coach Peter Sloane said NRL player agents were herding their charges towards lucrative rugby deals in Japan.
Kiwis World Cup star Benji Marshall and compatriot Fraser Anderson have been linked with Japan in recent weeks, and Japan-based Sloane is well aware of the growing trend.
Currently coaching club side Kintetsu, Sloane said: "The whole situation is being driven by managers here in Australia, who are bringing NRL players to the attention of the Japanese corporations that own the teams."
