The body of a young member of the Manly Sea Eagles rugby league club has been found at the base of a cliff at a northern Sydney beach.
Police are trying to determine what happened to the 21-year-old, named by News Ltd as Jason Annear, who graduated to NSW Cup level in 2012 and had been placed on standby to make his NRL debut.
Emergency services were called to Queenscliff Point, near Freshwater Beach, about 6.50pm (AEDT) on Sunday after members of the public spotted a body at the base of the cliff.
It's believed Annear may have fallen to his death while returning home from the club's annual presentation dinner at the Manly Pacific Hotel on Friday.
The club posted a short note on its Twitter account saying: "Tragic news for the club today. Out of respect for the family we'll make a statement at a more appropriate time. Thank you for your support."
