NRL: Sharks player faces police charges

Police are investigating an alleged incident involving Cronulla NRL playmaker Albert Kelly at a Sydney hotel.

Kelly, who is recovering from a broken leg, was arrested last night after being told to leave Northies Hotel in Cronulla by security staff due to what police called 'high levels of intoxication'.

While being escorted from the premises, Kelly allegedly pushed over tables and chairs outside the hotel before pushing a bouncer in the chest.

Officers nearby witnessed the incident and say they handcuffed the 20-year-old after he continued to act in an aggressive manner, a statement from NSW Police media said.

The former Parramatta lower grade player, who is the cousin of Queensland superstar Greg Inglis, was taken to Miranda police station.

Kelly was released on Saturday morning but police say they will be issuing charges against him in the near future.

Police say a 26-year-old man who was with Kelly will be charged with offensive behaviour after trying to lash out at officers and had to be subdued with capsicum spray.

Sharks officials, on the Gold Coast ahead of today's match against the Titans, say they will assist police in any way they can but also vowed to support Kelly.

The youngster is almost certain to face sanction with the club's code of conduct stating players who are recovering from injury cannot consume alcohol.
