SYDNEY - Demoted Sydney Roosters forward Willie Mason says he has no plans to leave the club and has learned his lesson from breaking the club's alcohol policy.
Mason and teammate Nate Myles were on Monday stood down from the National Rugby League and ordered to play for the Newtown Jets in the NSW Cup for drinking on Sunday, outside of the club's agreed drinking guidelines.
The former test star is not happy to be punished for drinking "four or five beers" at his home, but will cop the penalty on the chin.
"Four or five beers on a Sunday in my own house is obviously the wrong thing to do now," Mason told the Nine Network.
"Live and learn. If I do it again I'm an idiot.
"(Coach Brad Fittler) has made a very strong statement to the rest of the team, don't have a beer the day before training."
Mason's future at the Roosters has been the centre of recent innuendo, with his manager Greg Keenan currently in Europe and rumoured to be discussing the 28-year-old with Super League and French rugby union clubs.
It has been reported that the Roosters would release Mason if he sought to leave before his contract expires in 2010 but he insists he will see out the next two years and maybe beyond.
"I'm very happy at the club. I have got two years here and if I feel good after the contract and feel like I can compete in Australia at the top level I want to re-sign with the Roosters," Mason said.
"Nick Politis (club chairman) rang me straight away and laughed it off and said he is never going to get rid of me."
