Sydney Roosters centre Shaun Kenny-Dowall will celebrate a lucrative new contract by marking South Sydney superstar Greg Inglis in Friday night's NRL season opener at the Sydney Football Stadium.
The Bondi Junction club have confirmed the re-signing of New Zealand international Kenny-Dowall until the end of the 2015 NRL season in a deal believed to be worth $A1.4 million.
The 23-year-old centre says he knocked back several offers, one reportedly from Parramatta, to remain with the 2010 grand finalists.
"I've obviously been here for a long time and I've really enjoyed being at the club and it's got a good culture and a good core group of players that will be around for the next couple of years," he told reporters on Thursday.
"Why change a good thing when it's going to work and I just really enjoy being here?"
Kenny-Dowall enjoyed his best season last year after new Roosters coach Brian Smith switched him to the centres from the wing and he was set to be one of the most in-demand off-contract stars in 2011.
"Sometimes the local kid or the young kid who's made his way through the grades doesn't tend to get the big splash that guys do when they change from one club to another," Smith said.
"I'm personally just as excited about the news that Shaun's here as we were about (captain) Braith's (Anasta's) signing and as we might be if we were to sign anyone from any other club.
"Shaun's now regarded, certainly in our club, as one of the most potent tryscoring players in our club and we think across the league."
Meanwhile, the Roosters expect Dally M medallist Todd Carney (groin) to be fit for the round two clash with Manly.
