Rabbitohs 20
Wests Tigers 54
Robbbie Farah did the Warriors a small favour by turning it on for the Tigers last night and turning off any thoughts South Sydney had of the playoffs.
Farah turned the Rabbitohs' defence this way and that with a sublime display of running from dummy half and broken play - and was heavily involved in seven of the first eight of the Tigers' 10 tries.
The Rabbitohs were one position ahead of the Warriors before last night's game and most expected them to win - putting another obstacle in the way of the Warriors' own dwindling hopes of making the finals. Farah tore up the form book, however, setting up all three of Taniela Tuiaki's tries in the first 30 minutes and setting up Corey Payne's try.
With both teams needing a win, defence was a lesser priority - never more so than when halfback Tim Moltzen scored from a kick-off. Luke Capewell had just scored his second try but mysteriously elected not to claim the ball on the full from the kick-off.
The bounce jagged back to the Tigers and Moltzen romped to the corner for the softest try of the season.
Earlier, Benji Marshall, another heavily involved in the Tigers' attacking forays, gave away Capewell's first try when he was comfortably dismissed in defence. A second Marshall error gave Capewell his hat-trick.
The Rabbitohs came back from 36-10 shortly after halftime to 36-20 but the Tigers' tries just kept coming, usually courtesy of that man Farah.
Rabbitohs 20 (L. Capewell 3, N. Merritt tries; C. Sandow 2 goals). Wests Tigers 54 (T. Tuiaki 3, C. Payne, T. Moltzen, B. Ayshford 2, B. Ryan, J. Skandalis, S. Gallant tries; B. Marshall 7 goals). Halftime: 26-10
