The NRL is eyeing up America again, on the back of Jarryd Hayne's remarkable success in making the San Francisco 49ers squad for the upcoming NFL season.
NRL bosses have told the Daily Telegraph they are contemplating an exhibition, NRL or State of Origin game in California.
Hayne Mania is sweeping Australasia although it's less certain whether this would translate to a league game Stateside. The paper detailed previous games in America that were not exactly winners, including an Origin exhibition game in 1987 that drew less than 10,000 to the Long Beach venue.
NRL head David Smith said: The Rugby League International board, of which I'm deputy chairman, is looking at expansion markets...and the USA is one of the significant target markets."
Todd Greenberg, the head of football, said "the NRL is always looking to grow the game".
Greenberg added: "We always supported Jarryd following his dream and I think the whole country is behind him."
