SYDNEY - Rising Kiwis star Krisnan Inu could soon be lost to rugby league for two years as he eyes his Mormon mission overseas.
Inu's debut season in the top flight hit a new high on Saturday as he laid on two tries in a man-of-the-match performance to inspire Parramatta to an 18-12 National Rugby League (NRL) win over South Sydney.
But he revealed afterwards he was seriously considering his mission in the near future so he can return to league when still in his prime.
"I will talk to my family and friends and make a decision," Inu, 20, told the Sydney Morning Herald.
"They prefer that I do the mission but they leave it up to me. They just advise me to do it before the age of 25, but for me, I would rather do it at a young age and then come back and work on my game."
Inu, whose father Pepesuatia is a bishop in the church, didn't think the two-year break would impact on his career.
"Two years is not a very long time for me. Growing up in the church, the mission was always the biggest thing I had to do."
Inu made a solid test debut for the Kiwis at fullback in their Anzac test loss to Australia in Brisbane in April.
He would follow the path of compatriot and fellow Mormon Fraser Anderson who quit the Warriors development squad in 2003 to complete his mission in the Philippines.
He returned to join the Brisbane Broncos then linked up with Cronulla this season, with several impressive showings putting him in the frame for a Kiwis jersey.
