Canberra Raiders forward Trevor Thurling has been stood down by the National Rugby League club after being arrested by police following a motor accident in Sydney on Thursday night.
The club said Thurling, 24, was allegedly found to be driving under the influence of alcohol and will appear in court next month.
Raiders chief executive Don Furner said Thurling had been stood down from all playing and club commitments until further notice.
"The Raiders are very disappointed with Trevor's actions in this matter and have taken appropriate measures by standing him down from all playing and club commitments until the matter is dealt with by the appropriate authorities," Furner said.
"Trevor has broken the Raiders' code of conduct by drinking while injured and more seriously put himself and others in danger by his actions."
Meanwhile, Star fullback Karmichael Hunt has disagreed with Broncos legend Shane Webcke's decision to quit his job as Brisbane's forwards coach.
Webcke this week resigned as assistant coach, saying he believed his new tell-all book Hard Road brought undue attention and stress on the club and players involved in sexual assault allegations last year.
The former test prop was critical of the Broncos' handling of the matter as Hunt, Sam Thaiday and Darius Boyd - who were never charged - were allowed to play on in the NRL finals series.
While an apologetic Webcke felt he needed to pay the price for inappropriately revisiting the incident, Hunt said he harboured no ill-feelings and his former teammate had no cause to resign.
"There was definitely no pressure from the club or the players that were involved, that's for sure."
