KEY POINTS:
The role Wayne Bennett is likely to play with the Kiwis will be discussed at an NZRL board meeting on Friday.
The long-time Broncos coach has said he is willing to help the Kiwis, particularly after their disastrous results against Australia and Great Britain, and the NZRL have said they would be "silly" if they didn't invite Bennett to take some sort of role.
Embattled Kiwis coach Gary Kemble was reappointed last month but the remainder of his coaching staff has not been decided. Phil Prescott and James Leuluai assisted him in the end-of-season tests.
"We want to confirm the Kiwis staffing structure sooner rather than later," NZRL general manager Peter Cordtz said. "Wayne has plenty to offer in terms of coaching credibility and if there was a way to take advantage of that, particularly in a World Cup year, we would be keen."
The Australian Rugby League have also said they support Bennett being involved with the Kiwis because of their desire for a competitive World Cup.
Bennett could be appointed as an assistant or mentor but, given his background, it's hard not to think he would have a hands-on role with the side.
The Kiwis play Australia in Sydney on May 9.
