Anthony Mundine's father and trainer says the Sydney Roosters are favourites to sign his son but still believes the former world boxing champion is making the wrong decision about returning to rugby league.
Tony Mundine senior said his greatest concern was for Anthony to suffer an injury playing football and ruin his boxing career.
"You're not playing junior rugby league, you're playing top level rugby league against the top players in the world. He could get an injury, and then he can't box anymore," Mundine senior told Sydney radio station Triple M today.
"I really in my heart don't want him to take on rugby league.
"All I want him to do is pick one sport. He won the world title, I want him to win another second title and go on and be the greatest fighter produced in Australia."
Roosters chairman Nick Politis revealed this week he had become involved in talks with luring Mundine, but coach Ricky Stuart dismissed speculation about him joining the club.
"I think the favourites would be the Roosters," Mundine senior said when asked which club his son would choose.
"I know what's going on, what the paper and all the media are talking about, it's all different."
Mundine has said the Dragons and the New Zealand Warriors were sides he was considering joining after his world title fight, but St George Illawarra have said they won't be offering the boxer a contract.
Mundine first indicated he wanted to juggle a National Rugby League (NRL) career with boxing after his World Boxing Association super middleweight world title bout with Denmark's Mikkel Kessler.
But with an injured Kessler postponing the bout for up to two months, the details of Mundine's planned return to the NRL have fluctuated daily.
"You never know where he's going to go at the moment," Mundine senior said.
"He's tossing and turning about what's going to happen.
"He's a good player. And he's going to be a good player. He's a very stubborn boy. I've said it myself, when he says this is what he's going to do, he'll do it."
