KEY POINTS:
South Sydney are reportedly in negotiations with All Blacks rugby legend Jonah Lomu to make a one-off appearance in next year's Charity Shield match against St George Illawarra.
The Nine Network has reported the National Rugby League club wanted to attract Lomu to help promote the 25th year of the shield, an annual match between the clubs which precedes the regular season.
The report said the 63-test veteran had already agreed to play in the match and Souths co-owner Peter Holmes a Court did not confirm or deny the club was courting Lomu. Souths chief executive Shane Richardson said the club had no comment on the matter.
The Gold Coast Titans tried to lure Lomu to the 13-man code this year but could not come to a monetary agreement.
Lomu has previously talked about his desire to play again for the All Blacks but seriously considered the idea of moving to Australia to play rugby league late last year.
He entered negotiations with the newly-formed Titans but declined the offer.
The New Zealand Rugby League may also be interested in having Lomu guest star in their one-off All Golds team to play a British selection in England on October 20 although it is not known if any invitation has yet been made.
