KEY POINTS:
Former New Zealand Rugby League boss Trevor Maxwell has returned to top-level administration as the national body's new president.
Maxwell, a retired judge, replaces the late Ron McGregor, who became the NZRL's first president under its new constitution earlier this year.
Chairman Ray Haffenden said Maxwell brought a wealth of experience to the organisation through his term as the NZRL's chair from 1992-94.
"Ron's (McGregor) passing this year was an enormous loss for the game but we're fortunate to have someone of Trevor's calibre to take on this vital role as the figurehead for our game," he said.
"He brings past experience as the game's leader while his constitutional expertise and years as a judge will also be beneficial to us."
