KEY POINTS:
Wayne Bennett's involvement as Kiwis assistant coach has been confirmed through to the World Cup.
The Broncos boss made a significant impression on the side for last Friday's Centenary test against Australia and his support of head coach Stephen Kearney is seen as essential if the Kiwis are to challenge for November's World Cup.
Bennett doesn't do contracts but he has indicated he will continue with the Kiwis. He originally agreed to help with the side for the Centenary test only.
"After the positive signs of the Centenary test, it's vital we have him on board for the World Cup," NZRL chairman Ray Haffenden said. "He was active in all areas of the buildup to that match from working with management to players. This is extremely significant for us."
Bennett has shied away from talking publicly about his experiences with the Kiwis but those in camp said he thoroughly enjoyed his time - except for the 28-12 scoreline.
He drilled the players on their defensive patterns during the week, allowing Kearney to piece together the overall gameplan and also deal with the media and public duties - things he finds largely onerous.
"It's certainly wonderful from my point of view [to have him commit to the World Cup] and it's fantastic for Kiwi rugby league," said Kearney, who is Melbourne Storm assistant coach. "He was great throughout the week of the Centenary test and it will be even more beneficial to have him for the World Cup.
"He's very determined to help us out and indicated this to me after the test match. I'm very privileged to be able to work with him."
Kearney and the NZRL are undertaking a review of the week in camp but are expected to retain the bulk of the management team that included Dean Bell, Gordon Gibbons, Ruben Wiki and Stacey Jones.
