The Kiwis and Kangaroos are set to play their annual Anzac test in Turkey in 2015 to mark the centenary of the Gallipoli landings, according to reports.
According to the Daily Telegraph the transtasman rivals, who face off tomorrow night at Skilled Park in Robina, will play in the Turkish capital Istanbul following an appearance by players at the Anzac Dawn Service at Gallipoli.
The 2015 service will mark 100 years since Australian and New Zealand soldiers landed on the Turkish peninsula during World War I. More than 11,000 Australians and New Zealanders lost their lives during the campaign.
The newspaper reports that the Australian Rugby League, the New Zealand Rugby League and the NRL have been holding secret talks for the last two years to set up a proposal which will be presented to the Australian, New Zealand and Turkish governments.
"With 100 years since Gallipoli coming up, to have the opportunity to celebrate it with a game that is 100 years old itself, when so many rugby league players fought in all the wars since, it was something we just had to pursue," ARL chief executive Geoff Carr told the Daily Telegraph.
NZRL chief executive Jim Doyle told the newspaper that the most likely venue more the match is the home ground of Turkish Super Lig side Fenerbahce, Sukru Saracoglu Stadium which holds 53,500 fans.
