KEY POINTS:
BRISBANE - Sacked New Zealand Brisbane Bronco star Howard Te Reo, 21, has faced a Brisbane court on charges of chasing and bashing a 32-year-old man.
Te Reo, a former Junior Kiwi who comes from Wellington, and former Brisbane Bronco's teammate Ian Robert Lacey, 23, both appeared briefly in the Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning over the incident.
Both men have been charged with one count of grievous bodily harm.
The case has been adjourned while the crown obtains medical evidence.
They are accused of chasing the man from the Victory Hotel to the corner of Charlotte and Eagle streets in central Brisbane in the early hours of October 9.
They allegedly struck the man, who fell to the ground.
He was taken to hospital and treated for a fractured skull and bleeding to the brain.
The Crown today sought a three week adjournment to obtain medical evidence about the man's condition.
The court was told doctors were still monitoring his recovery but would be required to provide an interim report prior to the next hearing.
Both men, who were sacked by Broncos management following the incident, had their bail extended.
Following the incident, Broncos' managing director Bruno Cullen said the NRL club had held an extensive internal investigation and decided both Te Reo and Lacey had breached the code of conduct in their player contracts.
Cullen said the Broncos made the decision to cut both players after seeking legal advice.
Te Reo then returned to New Zealand as part of a pre-planned holiday.
He forced his way into the Broncos' NRL squad after a storming 2006 season in the secondary Queensland Cup competition.
Te Reo made his NRL debut in March against the New Zealand Warriors but played just one other match in the top grade last season.
The incident occurred just hours after the Broncos'annual presentation dinner.
The case has been adjourned until January 29.
