It is believed Hayne had been spotted with Robinson as a group also including Wests Tigers' Robbie Farah prepared to meet Liverpool greats at a Sydney CBD hotel ahead of last week's Legends match.
Robinson had reportedly organised to meet ex-Liverpool coach Gerard Houllier through one of the Legends match's organisers Hayden Knowles, a good mate of Hayne.
In town to promote the match, huge Liverpool fan Hayne was at the hotel to meet players along with Farah.
Hayne has been linked to an NRL return since being dropped to the 49ers practice squad after six NFL games in his debut season.
He was promoted to the active roster for the season's last two matches.
Speculation intensified again after the end-of-season sacking of 49ers head coach Jim Tomsula - the man who took a chance and threw Hayne an NFL lifeline.
The 49ers have retained Hayne's contract rights for next season after he finished the year on their 53-man roster.
But the new coach can make roster changes.
Hayne has repeatedly denied an NRL return.
He recently said he was committed to returning to 49ers pre-season training in April.
