The NZ Herald Fantasy NRL season is over after the Roosters edged out the Sea Eagles to win the 2013 title. But which player should have got the Fantasy Clive Churchill medal?
Roosters 26 Sea Eagles 18
The star: Anthony Watmough (48 points) - The Manly second rower was the top points scorer in Sunday's final with 14 more than teammate Daly Cherry-Evans who become just the third player to be awarded the man of the match in a losing side. Watmough made 39 tackles, missing just one, along with 114 metres gained. Sonny Bill Williams wasn't too far behind with 46 points for the Roosters. SBW had 133 metres gained and one line break. Teammates Aidan Guerra (42) and James Maloney (40) also cracked the 40-point mark.
The duds: Brett Stewart (6 points) and David Williams (5) It's harsh to pick on one player in a grand final effort so we'll choose two. Stewart and Williams were vital to Manly's run to the final, both averaging 20 points in the last fortnight but they both failed to fire in the final game of the season. Williams especially who failed to pass 100 metres gained for the first time in five weeks.
Value pick: Sonny Bill Williams (46 pts) - He was the bargain buy all season and that didn't change for the final. $168k was about a third of his true value.
