On October 4 last year Sonny Bill Williams was basking in the glow of a premiership triumph with the Bulldogs.
Twelve months on, to the day, he will be in the dock at the Waverly Local Court in east Sydney, as his drink-driving case continues.
The 20-year-old Kiwis star made a brief appearance in court on Wednesday, where he was remanded on bail without plea to one charge of drink-driving.
Williams, a provisional licence holder, was stopped by police after being seen driving erratically in Sydney's eastern suburbs on August 17.
He failed a roadside test, returning a reading of .075. The legal blood alcohol limit for provisional drivers is zero.
Williams made a public apology hours after the incident and was fined A$5000 ($5500) by the Bulldogs.
Following the highs of 2004, which included his Kiwis debut in the Anzac test, this year has been wretched for Williams, with ankle and knee injuries restricting him to just five appearance for the premiers.
The knee problem has also ruled him out of the Tri-Nations series with the Kangaroos and Great Britain starting on October 15.
