KEY POINTS:
It's already caused a travel agent a few headaches and it's unlikely to be the end of the confusion for new Kiwis Jeremy Smith and Jeremy Smith.
One of the Smiths was cancelled from the touring party for a flight during the upcoming Kiwis tour of the United Kingdom and France before it was picked up by an eagle-eyed member of team management.
There are plenty of people who have shared names in the same sport but rarely have two played in the same team together.
A scan through the history books found that the only occasion in Kiwis history was in 1925 when Devonport second-rower Jim O'Brien packed down with Marist prop Jim O'Brien. There were also two George Turners as well as two Craig Smiths but they were never Kiwis team-mates.
Soon after the Kiwis gathered in Auckland on Friday night, they were trying to sort out ways to identify the pair.
In the world of sport, nicknames aren't always the most original and both have always gone by Jezza.
Yesterday the most likely scenario sounded like something out of the children's television show Playschool - Big Jezza (Melbourne) and Little Jezza (Souths) - although Melbourne's Smith may get JJ because of his initials.
"We haven't worked anything out yet, but I'm sure the boys will sort it out," Little Jezza said.
Both Smiths will make their test debuts against Australia next weekend if they make the final 17.
For Big Jezza, selection for the Kiwis capped off a big week after he was part of the NRL-winning Melbourne side.
"There's been plenty of drinking and partying," the second-rower admitted before explaining the team had been under an alcohol ban for two-and-a-half months leading up to the final. "[The past week] hasn't really sunk in yet. It's been like a dream... and I'm getting ready to wake up."
For Little Jezza, it is the chance to play at the highest level after previously playing for the Junior Kiwis, New Zealand Maori and New Zealand A.
"My name has been mentioned for a few years and there were times when I wondered if my time had passed," the 26-year-old halfback said. "When I finally got the call, it was a great buzz."
What he and his namesake will be called over the next six weeks remains to be seen.
