KEY POINTS:
The size of the hole in which New Zealand rugby league finds itself remains an unknown, with the depleted NZRL board unwilling to speculate after meeting yesterday and deferring a statement on their position until the end of the week.
The meeting yesterday reviewed this year's accounts and set budgets for next year and new chairman Ray Haffenden said afterwards that the board was still establishing the facts.
"We are determined to provide a clear picture for our members and partners on our true position as soon as possible," said Haffenden.
"We've made a lot of progress today analysing not just our current position but also planning and setting budgets for 2008 and beyond.
We are working on this as quickly as we can but we will ensure we complete a thorough review before making specific comment."
Mark Graham was named the NZRL's player of the century at the annual awards dinner in Manukau on Saturday night, with prop Cliff Johnson named captain of the century and leader of a team of greats chosen to mark the NZ game's 100th anniversary. Kiwis captain Roy Asotasi was player of the year.
