New South Wales could be forced into starting a debutant at hooker in the State of Origin decider after Michael Ennis was charged with a grade one careless high tackle at the NRL judiciary today.
Ennis' likely suspension is coupled with the injury to starting hooker Robbie Farah, who is having scans on a potential hand fracture suffered in the Wests Tigers' loss to Penrith last night.
Carry-over judiciary points means that the only way Ennis can get off without a one-game ban is by fighting the charge successfully.
An early guilty plea for the shot on Cowboys prop Matt Scott on Saturday would still result in the one-game ban and Ennis missing the vital Game Three.
Nathan Peats was touted as a potential replacement in some quarters but he is also injured, leaving Dragons hooker Mitch Rein, Storm number nine Ryan Hinchcliffe and Bulldogs utility Josh Reynolds as potential options to play in the Origin decider.
