KEY POINTS:
All Blacks utility Ma'a Nonu is on the New Zealand Rugby League's wish list to join its historic All Golds centenary match in England.
New Zealand Rugby League (NZRL) director of football Graham Lowe said he had spoken to Nonu, who was "very, very keen" on the idea, a report in the Dominion Post newspaper said.
Nonu is considered an outside chance of being selected in the All Blacks' World Cup squad on July 22.
His participation in the league tour would have to be approved by the New Zealand and Wellington Rugby Unions.
"We have had no approach from the player or his agent regarding his proposed participation in this match, and indeed this is the first we have heard of it," WRU chief executive Greg Peters told the newspaper.
Nonu has endured a difficult year on and off the field, making just fleeting appearances off the bench for the All Blacks against France after being called in as a replacement.
Last weekend it was reported the 25-year-old escaped conviction for an alcohol-related incidents for the second time, being granted diversion after breaching an alcohol bylaw in central Wellington on July 1.
The All Golds -- a one-off commemorative team celebrating 100 years of New Zealand rugby league -- will play the Northern Union at Warrington on October 20, the same day as the World Cup final in Paris.
The All Golds will be coached by Brisbane Broncos mentor Wayne Bennett and feature Australian superstar Darren Lockyer.
Lowe confirmed that former All Black first five-eighth Carlos Spencer and New Zealand Warriors captain Steve Price had also been approached to play.
Meanwhile, former Kiwis coach Bob Bailey queried the decision to co-opt Bennett as the coach.
Bailey had no qualms about Lockyer, who is included to reprise the role played by Australian Dally Messenger during the 1907 tour, but wondered why a New Zealander was not coaching the team.
"This is meant to be celebrating New Zealand rugby league, not Australia," he said.
