Kiwis and Catlans halfback Stacey Jones suffered a suspected broken arm in yesterday's 16-0 defeat at Salford.
Jones, who broke his other arm at the 1999 World Cup and plays with a brace on his arm, left the field after just 10 minutes of the French newcomers' loss and was sent for X-rays.
The 29-year-old had been outstanding as the Dragons made a stunning start to life in the competition by beating Wigan last week - but without him they were unable to break a resolute Reds side.
Dragons assistant coach Paul Donkin said: "We can't tell at this moment but he feels it is broken.
"It would be a big loss. You don't want your No 1 signing to go out in the second round."
As well as meaning he will be out of Super League action for some time, the injury also puts a cloud over Jones' involvement in the Anzac test against Australia on May 5.
Salford dominated the game but led only 6-0 at the interval after the first of Stuart Littler's two tries. Littler added his second early in the second half - but it was not until Andrew Brocklehurst touched down nine minutes from time that the game was finally safe.
In other Super League games, Leeds came from 16-0 down to snatch the points and condemn Wigan to consecutive opening defeats for the first time in the Super League era with a 24-16 success.
Paul Sculthorpe made his long-awaited return to action as St Helens defeated Castleford 44-8.
