KEY POINTS:
Former Kiwis international Joe Galuvao's days with NRL club Souths appear to be numbered.
Management are said to be keen to offload him to create space under the salary cap for former Australian test player Craig Wing.
Sydney's Daily Telegraph reported yesterday that Wing was set to announce he was joining South Sydney on a four-year deal worth $A1.2 million ($1.35 million).
It said the deal pushed Souths to their salary cap ceiling, and the club hoped to ease that strain by offloading second-rower Galuvao and at least three other players.
Galuvao's contract is worth $A350,000 a year and is due to expire at the end of 2008, but he has been playing reserve grade for most of this season.
The Telegraph said Galuvao was told by Souths co-owners Russell Crowe and Peter Holmes a Court that he had a limited future at the club.
He continues to have close links with the Penrith Christian Life Centre, a fact not lost on Crowe.
"Russell suggested that he retire and go into the ministry," said Galuvao's manager, Allan Gainey. "Joe was gobsmacked."
Galuvao rejected suggestions he should become a minister. He has vowed to fight his way back at Souths and is refusing to walk away from the club or from his contract.
