KEY POINTS:
Hugh McGahan has strapped on the gumboots and waded into the Kiwis coaching mud fight.
The Kiwis legend says Brian McLennan is the only man currently up for the job due to his experience with professional players, and he believes the whole issue has been handled poorly by the New Zealand Rugby League.
He says the NZRL has made a mountain out of a molehill and it could have been resolved months ago with a simple conversation.
The two parties met yesterday.
The NZRL has put an increased pay offer on the table although there was no relaxation of the residency rule, and McLennan has until the end of the month to decide whether he stays, or goes to Leeds.
McGahan believes there is little choice for the NZRL but to keep McLennan in the job and happy.
While some Kiwi test players have already voiced their support for the current coach, McGahan says it is best to stay out of it. He says players are always going to back the person in charge and not the new guy.
