SYDNEY - Kiwis veteran David Kidwell has missed the cut for the centenary rugby league test side, captain Roy Asotasi has confirmed.
While coach Stephen Kearney has yet to announce which two players from the 19-man squad will miss out for the test against the Kangaroos here on Friday, Asotasi let slip about his South Sydney teammate last night.
"He (Kidwell) will be disappointed that he didn't actually get into the 17 but I personally think that he can play a vital supporting role in the side," Asotasi told the Nine Network.
Kidwell joined Asotasi in making public the players' concerns about previous coach Gary Kemble this year, which led to Kearney and Wayne Bennett being appointed.
It has been a tough year for 24-test veteran Kidwell, who battled his way back from a serious knee injury suffered when playing with his young daughter at home.
Last week he was stripped of the Souths co-captaincy he shared with Asotasi after recording a positive alcohol reading, along with four teammates, at a team recovery session the day after their loss to Brisbane.
Souths ended their seven-match losing streak against North Queensland yesterday.
