KEY POINTS:
Former Warriors coach Tony Kemp is one of six nominations to fill two vacancies on the board of the New Zealand Rugby League.
The vacancies resulted from the resignation of former chairman Selwyn Bennett who quit in the fallout from the Nathan Fien Grannygate saga and the departure earlier of Keith Pittman.
Kemp was assistant coach at Glenfield rugby this season and is also involved in the running of a timber business.
The other nominees are the Taranaki vice-chairman and former Kiwi Howie Tamati, Manawatu's Barry Law, NZRL employee Alex Eleftheriadis, former NZRL director Allen Gore and former halfback Vinnie Weir, a financial controller for Fonterra.
Former Kiwis coach Graham Lowe was nominated by the Kiwis Association but his nomination failed to get a seconder when the districts and affiliates met acting chairman Andrew Chalmers at an emergency meeting before the Kiwis test against Great Britain in Wellington a fortnight ago.
"I'm comfortable with it," said Lowe, who put himself forward if there was support within the rugby league community. "I haven't gone away. I just accept what has been done. If some people think that everything is all right, then good on them. But I'm not one of them. I don't think everything's all right."
The two new members are likely to be selected by the four remaining board members - Chalmers, Peter Douglas, Bob Haddon and Keith Burgess - at a board meeting early next month. They will have a brief term of office with new elections set down for the AGM in March.
Auckland Rugby League have, for the time being, withdrawn their threat to put forward a motion of no confidence in the NZRL board.
ARL chairman Cameron McGregor said they had met Chalmers a number of times and were happy to give him time to address some of their concerns.
"We are in a supportive role and he's making all the right noises at the moment," McGregor said. "He's got until March to prove himself and we will reappraise things then. If things happen before then that make us a bit nervous, we will have a look at it at that stage."
