League: Jetz come from behind for draw against Leopards

The Counties-Manukau Jetz showed good determination to come from behind for a 24-all result against the Otahuhu Leopards in Bartercard Cup yesterday.

The Jetz have quickly regrouped after the last-minute pre-season change of coach, with the incoming Gary Kemble lifting them to a win last weekend and yesterday's draw in the curtainraiser at Ericsson Stadium.

The hooter had gone when bench player Lui Faleono crossed in the right corner and Talivakaola Taifua's conversion attempt from the sideline bounced off the posts.

North Harbour demolished the hapless Northern Storm 54-18 at Whangarei, 10 tries to three, with wing Tui Samoa and centre Stu Heslop scoring hat-tricks as the visitors pushed on from a 28-2 half-time lead.

Wellington upset the Canterbury Bulls 20-16 at Hutt Recreation Ground with halfback Leon Boyd's goal-kicking the difference, Canterbury unable to convert any of their four tries and Boyd scoring one of the Orcas' three tries and nailing four goals.

At Palmerston North, the Central Falcons reversed a 24-10 lead by WaiCoa Bay for a 42-30 win, seven tries to five, Hayden Karena converting five of the seven.

Most interest in the second round focuses on tonight's game between the Auckland Lions and Waitakere Rangers, to be screened live on Maori TV.
